About the author, Judith Barker

Judith has extensive experience teaching in Europe, the Middle East, India and China. She has a Bachelor of Education with further studies in linguistics, special education, creative writing and meditation.

When she first read “Oh The Places You’ll Go” to children at an international school in Italy, the repetition of the sounds and letters seemed to fully resonate in Dr. Seuss’ fun and lyrical stories. The children would recall the sounds and manipulate the letters to make different words. However, while attempting to master the many vagaries of spelling––it became much, more of a challenge.

While researching a Master in Phonological Awareness she began to use visual language in stories, by combining the phonemes with the various spelling patterns. After returning to Australia she saw a growing need to support diversity in schools and created Sound Owl. When Judith’s not busy writing children’s stories, plays or attempting to finish her novel she’s usually immersed in another culture, or teaching meditation and music therapy.
